Aim
This course aims to analyze the legal, ethical and societal implications of current digital technologies and to be acquainted with the main aspects of the legal frameworks regulating their deployment. This year's topic is "AI and Law at the crossroads: Prevention and regulation".

Syllabus
Comparative Approaches to the Legal Challenges of AI (Prof. Andrea Pin)
The scenario of AI regulation is changing. Several jurisdictions are tackling the phenomenon in more pervasive ways, going beyond the paradigms of consent, public interests, and data protection that were overwhelming until recently. The mini-course will touch upon some models of AI regulation (specifically EU, the US, and China) in order to cover:
- the ideals of consent and control
- the conceptualizations of public interest
- the insufficiency of data protection.
EU regulations for digital data and A.I.
EU's Evolving Rights Protection & AI (Dr. Spliller)
Even in light of what was presented in the first lecture, the attention will focus on the new EU proposal for an Artificial Intelligence Act and the effects on fundamental rights. In particular, the discussion will address:
- the concept of technological risk
- the role of humans in the AI functioning
- the use of AI for healthcare, in general
