Open day reception and young digital award ceremony
Padova, 25 October 2018

On October 25 2018 in the wonderful location of the Botanic Gardens of the University of Padova, HIT centre organized a competition among young researchers and PhD students.
The award was destined to the candidate carrying out the best and most original research project with a focus on the digital area. The level of innovation in the design/development of digital technologies was evaluated, or/and the innovative use of existing digital technologies to produce relevant benefits to the individual or society.
Thirty young researchers applied and presented their posters to the committee and the audience. The committee included 27 members among academicians, institutional representatives and entrepreneurs. The award was conferred to Giulia  Mansutti. Second ranked was Carlo De Santi and third ranked Ankit Gangwal. Honorable mentions were also assigned to Gloria Beraldo, Michele Polese, Daniele Ronzani, Federico Chiarotti, Valeria Orso, Pasquale Capuozzo and Luca Menghini. The award plates were handed to the winners by the Rector of the University of Padua prof Rosario Rizzuto, by dr Gianni Potti, organizer of the Digital Meet annual event, and by prof Luciano Gamberini, director of the HIT research centre.
During the plenary session, three doctoral programs (Brain, Mind and Computer Science, Information Engineering and Psychologial Sciences) presented their activities to the audience.

The event was sponsored by HIT, Digital Meet and the University of Padua.

SYMBIOTIC 2017

6th International Workshop on Symbiotic Interaction
Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 18-19 December 2017

Overview
The Symbiotic Workshop is the primary venue to presents scientific works dealing with the symbiotic relationships between humans and computers and to discuss the nature and implications of such relationship, including ethics. The idea of symbiotic systems put forward in this workshop capitalises on the computers' ability to implicitly (even subliminally) detect the users goals and psycho-physiological states and thereby enhancing human-computer interaction (HCI) without subducting control from the human. The workshop comes back to Padua this year after three successful editions in London, Helsinki and Berlin and extends its scope to qualitative research.

The proceedings will be published by in the series LNCS Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science.
More details and the call for papers are available from the official site of the event

SYMBIOTIC 2015

International Workshop on Symbiotic Interaction
October 7-8 Berlin

Overview
The Symbiotic Workshop presents an overview of the symbiotic relationships between humans and computers as well as novel advancements therein. There will be organized sessions and room for free discussions to shape the concepts, goals, and directions of this new field of research. The idea of symbiotic systems put forward in this workshop capitalises on the computers’ ability to implicitly (even subliminally) detect the users goals and psycho-physiological states and thereby enhancing human-computer interaction (HCI) without subducting control from the human. A special focus of this year’s Symbiotic Workshop will be on physiological computing approaches, e.g. using brain-computer interface (BCI) technology.
Submission formats include Research Papers (12 pages including references) or Posters and Demos (6 pages) that contribute to an emergent community investigating Symbiotic Interaction as a future paradigm with theories and conceptual frameworks, experimental paradigms and user studies, multi-modal data analysis and design driven research. Submission guidelines are available here.
The proceedings (including research papers as well as short papers for posters and demos) will be published in LNCS Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science.

The first call for papers and participation is available here.

Location
Technische Universität Berlin, Germany

Important Dates
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, May 25, 2015

- Notification of acceptance: Tuesday, July 5, 2015
- Submission of final papers: Monday, July 25, 2015

 SYMBIOTIC 2014

International Workshop on Symbiotic Interaction
October 30-31 Helsinki

Symbiotic 2014

SYMBIOTIC 2014, the International Workshop on Symbiotic Interaction, was hosted in Helsinki, and was chaired by Giulio Jacucci, University of Helsinki and Luciano Gamberini, University of Padova. Its proceedings were published by Springer in the LNCS series
The concept of symbiosis in Human-Computer Interaction relates to recent frameworks such as affective and emotional computing, telepresence, machine learning and all issues regarding the creation of human-computer relationships governed by mutual understanding, cooperation and optimal perception and awareness.
This wide field of research includes a variety of disciplines such as interaction design, industrial design, neuroscience, psychology, computational science, anthropology, without forgetting the ethical implications.
The community of researchers and pratictioners investigated Symbiotic Interaction as a future paradigm presenting theories and conceptual framework, experiments, technologies, applications and guidelines.
Some of the topics illustrated concerned models and measures of Human-Computer Symbiosis, measuring user acceptance of symbiotic devices, implicit interaction in symbiotic systems.
Symbiotic 2014 is partially funded by the European Community through the MindSee Project, (FP7 – ICT; Grant Agreement # 611570) and TEKES through the Re:Know project.

PERSUASIVE 2014
The 9th International Conference on Persuasive Technology
May 21-23 Padova

Persuasive 2014

PERSUASIVE 2014, the 9th edition of the International Conference on Persuasive Technology, was hosted in Padova during May 21-23, 2014.
PERSUASIVE 2014 was chaired by Luciano Gamberini and Anna Spagnolli (HTLab and Human Inspired Technologies Research Centre – University of Padova) and by Luca Chittaro (Human-Computer Interaction Lab, University of Udine) and benefited from the collaboration of 40 scholars composing the scientific commettee.
