Aim:
The purpose of the course is to introduce the interdisciplinary endevour of building a computer application or computing system whose primary goal is not to entertain but to achieve a serious goal in terms of users' and society's wellbeing.

Course contents:
The course will be structured so as to provide firstly the general framework of what serious games and gamified applications are, in terms of underlying principles. Then it overview the process from conception to evaluation. Then it will illustrate a set of cases; for each case, both the application rationale and the development requisites will be discussed.

1. Serious games and gamified applications: definitions, theories and steps
2. Principles of persuasive technology
3. Case 1: Videogame for nightlife interventions to prevent substance abuse
4. Case 2: Videogames in children with dislexia
5. Case 3: Videogames for cognitive training in elderly people
