Project description
Empathy is commonly regarded as a multidimensional construct comprising an emotional and a cognitive system. Given the association between empathy and spontaneous mutual aid behaviors in humans, some researchers have explored whether human empathy could also manifest toward nature and animals, thereby promoting pro-environment behaviors. This project is a psychophysiological study in the field of environmental psychology, aiming to investigate individual differences in empathy toward nature. To achieve this, we will validate a new multidimensional self-report tool to explore the human-nature connection and examine how differences in nature empathy impact both subjective and physiological responses to emotional stimuli regarding the environment, capturing the EEG Gamma band while participants are exposed to these stimuli. Additionally, the role of self-report arousal and empathy in modulating cortical activity stimulated by emotional stimuli will be explored.
