Project description
The digitalization of public administration processes requires a thorough understanding of the current processes in order to develop information systems that can support their execution digitally. This project aims to facilitate the digital transition of public administration processes. In this transition, the project will also provide solutions to (1) assess potential process issues, (2) and try to simplify the processes to ensure higher levels of efficiency and productivity. These issues can range from performance- (e.g. bottlenecks, poor resource utilization) to conformance-related problems (e.g. lack of compliance with legislative frameworks). It is important to note that processes are ultimately performed by human resources: any digitalization step thus requires the human to stay in the loop. Therefore, the project will propose solutions that incorporate an analysis of the sociological aspects of digitalization, aiming at a global acceptance of the changes. To achieve acceptance, it is necessary to provide explanations of different choices to the actors involved. The project will explore the use of "Explainable AI" techniques for this purpose. Additionally, in the production of these explanations, aspects related to Fairness and Responsibility will be taken into account. The explanations and choices should not facilitate discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, or social class.
