Aim
To motivate the need for and to appreciate the importance of Protection of embedded devices (controllers, actuators, sensors, etc.) from remote malware infestations. Also, to overview state ­of ­the ­art techniques for remote attestation of embedded devices. The course is relevant to BMCS for both computer science aspect and human behaviour, since embedded devices are often used in consumer, commercial, automotive, industrial, military and healthcare markets.

Syllabus
The course is based on recent techniques and research results concerning practical security and privacy issues related to embedded devices. Course content is as follows:
- Introduction and Motivation for ES security (Stuxnet, etc.)
- The need for Remote Attestation
- Time-­based (Software­-only) Remote Attestation
- Secure Erasure and Code Update
- TPM­-based Remote Attestation
- Hybrid HW/SW Remote Attestation
- Issues for Future Research

Course requirements
Basic notions of Networking and Security are desirable, but not strictly needed.
